This Friday (11th August) young people from the north west of Sheffield city will take part in the Blastoff 2008 final.
The final will be held at Concord Sports Centre from 6pm until 9pm. Training sessions have been taking place across the North West of the city over the last few weeks and now 12 six-a-side teams are due to battle it out for the coveted title of Blastoff Football Champions.
Paul Billington, Head of Activity Sheffield at Sheffield City Council said: "The two age categories, 11 - 13 and 14 - 16, have showed exceptional levels of football skill. Teams have been working extremely hard over the last few weeks to get themselves to the finals. It should be a really entertaining evening and I’d encourage as many people as possible, families and friends to go down and cheer the teams on.

Sheffield has scooped two prestigious national awards for its public spaces.
The Gold Route, which begins at Sheffield Station, was awarded both a Civic Trust Award as well as an additional Special Award for Streetscape for the city centre’s amazing collection of public spaces.
The Civic Trust Awards are regarded as the most prestigious awards for architecture and design. The aim of the awards, now in their 49th year, is to promote the quality and appearance of local environments.
Sheffield’s Gold Route won the ‘Streets Award’, one of only nine special awards given out at the ceremony. Other awards were given to prestigious schemes such as the refurbishment of London Royal Festival Hall, Nottingham’s Market Place and St. Georges Hall, Liverpool. South Yorkshire police officers will be starring alongside cartoon characters in a spine tingling film aimed at promoting Internet safety. The film is part of a package designed for schoolchildren and has been commissioned by the South Yorkshire Police Community Safety Department. Research shows that over 41% of eight to 11-year-olds regularly use the Internet and seven per cent of ten-year-olds have their own web cameras. The campaign is intended to raise youngsters' awareness of the dangers lurking on the Internet. During the first phase PCSOs will distribute leaflets to every Year-6 child in South Yorkshire. Under the Adopt a School scheme, all PCSOs have links to a local junior school.
